Getting Ready for Air Conditioning Season

April 30, 2016

Summer isn’t here yet but the temperatures are definitely warming up and that means it’s time for air conditioning season. Before the summer weather is officially here and you’re running your air conditioning unit around the clock to stay comfortable, remember to call your AC service technician to visit your home and conduct your yearly ac maintenance.

In addition to an AC system tune-up, there are a couple other ways you can get ready for the cooling season before warmer weather is officially here to stay.

  • Clean Your System

No, we aren’t implying that you should take your air conditioning unit apart, let a professional do that, but you can clean up the area around your A/C to clear away sticks and foliage that have made their way to your air conditioning unit during the windy winter and stormy spring. Cut the grass around the A/C and cut back any overgrown bushes or vegetation to make sure your A/C system is clear of debris. Keeping the airway clear can help keep your system running properly.

·     Change Your Home’s Air Filters

Comfortech Service Experts will replace your home’s basic air filters when they perform your seasonal tune-up as part of your regular A/C maintenance. You can (and should) also change your HVAC air filters by yourself, and it’s advised that you do so at least every 30-60 days for optimal performance. An unchanged filter accumulates dust, allergens, and germs so for the health of your family and the efficiency of your A/C system, make sure you’re changing those filters as part of your standard cooling equipment service. Also, a clogged filter could actually damage your air conditioner.

  • Block the Sun

Help block the sun from heating up your home by hanging blackout drapes or window shades. Hanging drapes or curtains may also help keep your furniture and floors from fading or suffering from sun damage over time.

·     Check Alarm Batteries

If you didn’t check your smoke and CO detector batteries over daylight savings, now it a great time. While you’re at it, check the batteries in your thermostat to make sure it is running properly so you don’t end up calling an AC service technician because your air conditioner isn’t running and then it ends up just being the thermostat. You could also consider installing a programmable thermostat so you can adjust the temperature remotely and save money on your utility bills.

A seasonal air conditioner tune-up service could make your system up to 30% more efficient and save you money on your energy bills. Call Comfortech Service Experts today to make sure your air conditioning system is ready to keep you cool and comfortable for the summer and find out about our spring specials on AC Precision tune-ups.
