Common Jackson AC Problems and Solutions

June 13, 2016

We previously told you about a few of the most common air conditioning problems Jackson faces, but today we are here to tell you about some frequent air conditioner issues that you can help troubleshoot.

The A/C is on but not blowing cool air.

If your A/C system is running but not actually cooling, you could need to have your refrigerant levels checked. Refrigerant is necessary to make sure the air blowing from the system is truly cool and keeps your home comfortable. Low refrigerant is usually an indicator of a leak or that the system wasn’t charged properly.

A simple way to confirm if you are low on refrigerant is to find the two copper pipes on your AC system. If the large one is “sweating” or covered in condensation, put your hand on the pipe and feel if it’s cold. If it is, you are likely good to go and do not need more refrigerant.

If you’re not convinced or the pipe is not producing condensation and is not cold when you feel it, call Comfortech Service Experts and we’ll stop by and check your refrigerant levels and discover why your system is not blowing cool air. Remember, only an EPA Certified technician should handle refrigerant for central air conditioning systems, due to the dangers of handling this potentially dangerous chemical.

You air condenser fan isn’t circulating.

There are several reasons your condenser fan might not be turning. One could be that it merely burned out and you require a replacement. Humidity tends to cause more condensation so another issue could be that the water is not draining correctly or that the drain is hindered. If you can confirm these things, you may be able to locate the issue; but, if not, give Comfortech Service Experts a call and we can determine what has stopped your condenser fan from circulating and walk you through your options to get your AC problem corrected.

Your AC system is not providing sufficient air cooling.

First thing’s first: try lowering your thermostat. It seems funny but sometimes we tend to forget the obvious. If lowering the thermostat doesn’t get your system working right, check and swap out the air filter. If the air filter is clogged, it could cause significant cooling troubles. Another problem that could be causing your lack of cooling is an air conditioning system that is not sized accurately, and unfortunately this is a very common issue when homes are built. Comfortech Service Experts is happy to come out and do an analysis to confirm whether or not the size of your AC is causing your problems.

Air Conditioner shuts on and off constantly

If your AC is short cycling, or turning on or off repeatedly, it could mean one of multiple things. One thing is that your condenser or evaporator is clogged or dirty and in need of cleaning. Once the system is cleaned and all blockages moved out of the way, you may be back to a regular running system. Note that humidity also plays a role so if the house cools to the desired temperatures, but then the humidity causes your house to heat up quickly, it could result in an on-again, off-again system because it’s having to work overtime to keep you cool and comfortable.

No matter your issue, whatever typical or atypical A/C issue you run into, Comfortech Service Experts is here for you all day, everyday. We are available all the time so we can get your A/C cooling and get your home comfortable quickly.
